With the winter months approaching, it might be time to try out a new hair look that better coordinates with the season. As typical winter clothing generally goes, darker and richer hues reign over light and bright shades that are mostly popular in the spring and summer. This only adds to the reasoning behind the choice of A list celebrities to turn to the dark side (that is, the brunette side) during the fall and winter months.

There is, unfortunately, a bit of hesitation that comes with the potential decision to go brunette. While no one actually wants dull or boring hair, one typical stereotype says that transitioning to a brunette hair shade means sacrificing luster, shine and overall fabulousness. Thankfully, this couldn’t be farther from the truth, and trends like the expensive brunette hair look are here to exemplify that.

Defining the Expensive Brunette Hair Trend

Despite initial reactions and assumptions based on the name, the expensive brunette hair trend actually does take professional hair color in brunette shades to an ultra luxurious and, yes, more expensive-looking level, though it’s no more expensive than a traditional salon color appointment. The trend was sparked by stylish celebrities like Bella Hadid, whose beautiful brunette hair has served as inspiration for hair color clients everywhere for years. The world fully latched on to the name, though, when Hailey Bieber herself famously went from blonde-haired California girl to winter-clad brunette babe, sending the expensive brunette trend into viral oblivion for all to see.

This particular hair trend involves much discretion when choosing the perfect brunette shades. It is composed of a rich, chestnut brown throughout the majority of the hair with glossy, lighter-colored ends that add dimension and shine. The resulting look has depth and looks nothing like the flat, all-over hair color some might imagine when they think about going for a brunette look.

Choosing the Best Brunette Shades

Hairstyles like this one are always best left to the professionals. Having said that, it’s important for clients to very explicitly state exactly what they want in terms of color. This way, the stylist can better decide on which specific colors to use and how to proceed with the appointment. As always, it’s a great idea to bring a few photos that serve as inspiration for the intended results so the stylist can see exactly what is being envisioned.

On the stylist’s end, it’s important to take the necessary time to decide on the best brunette shades when doing an expensive brunette look. While professional demi permanent hair color is the best option for some shades, it’s important to weigh the options and note where permanent color might be the best choice. It’s also important to consider the brand and products being used, as directions and guidelines can vary by brand. Looking at the breakdown of the look, stylists should prepare swatches for their clients to review before applying any color. Together, the stylist and client can mutually decide on a base color as well as a lighter highlight color for the ends and a lowlight color if needed. Good keywords to start with for these shades include coffee, caramel, rich, golden and chestnut.

Making the Most of Brunette Hair Color

Most appointments that involve the application of hair color also include added steps like a professional developer, toner gloss and more. In terms of the expensive brunette hair trend, depth and shine are two of the most important characteristics. This means stylists should definitely use a professional hair toner or gloss if warm blonde shades are involved in the highlighting process to eliminate uneven color, dullness and brassiness.

During the coloring process, stylists should work towards making the look dimensional with added depth. To do this, make a point to add in lowlights and create an interesting, multi-toned look with multiple brunette shades. Adding a warm color as both the highlight and the lowlight shade will maximize liveliness within the look, helping the end results seem even more natural.

Elevating the Expensive Brunette Look

Just when it seemed like it couldn’t get any better, the expensive brunette hair trend can be amplified even more by salon-quality hair products and a thoughtful maintenance routine. A professional shampoo and conditioner that protects color from fading is a huge key in keeping that expensive brunette color looking, well, expensive. Additionally, a high-quality hair serum can work wonders in eliminating dullness, adding shine and nourishing hair when styling it in between salon visits. Though the expensive brunette look is a specific style and shade combination, the aftercare routine looks a lot like any other set of guidelines for preserving hair color of any shade, making it manageable for any client!

Welcome to the 21st century where men take great pride in looking after themselves as much (or more so) than women. Gone are the days when men typically walk down the street in their scruffs looking grubby from their heavy labouring day. Men are looking slick and more dapper than ever (and too right)! With the rise of entrepreneurial men (and women) we can see that more time, effort and attention is being cultivated into our appearance.

But men? Hairdryers? Really? Oh yes. And here is why.

Blow drying your hair lays firm foundations for styling. It is like prepping the hair for the next steps. It is easier to handle and control and stays in line with what you are wanting to achieve for your hair on that day.

Bad hair day?

Not now you blow dry! It will also help you get a slick morning routine. Routine is key. Key for the mind and the day ahead. Yes, you will need to add a little extra time into your routine as you know it but it will totally be worth it. You will feel much better for it. A big feeling of confidence will be sure to encapsulate your whole persona. And who doesn’t want to be and feel more confident hey?!

Do you have curly hair?

Well, blow drying can help tame it. Yes, blow drying is great for curly hair in particular. A lot of sleek and straight looking hair comes from the blow drying technique. A small round brush and a blow dryer can do wonders for taming those locks.

A key tip here; long strokes through the hair (following the hair with the brush alongside the hairdryer, keeping the blow dryer as close to the hair whilst doing so).

Once your hair is dry, it is all yours to style with your hands and look as dapper as ever. Give it a whirl and see for yourself. It’s easy and once you get the hang of it your hair-drying flow will be on fire! Let’s talk again about confidence. Confidence is life’s enabler. If you are confident you can soar. So let’s increase your confidence.

Another top tip; use a heat defence spray or product to protect and strengthen your hair.

Your appearance and how you feel about the way you look affects your confidence levels for sure. You can also get travel hair dryers for men which are compact and effective!

Looking great. Feeling great.  Feeling great increases confidence no end.

Perfect your hair. Have a perfect day!!! Let’s sing *Ohhhh it’s such a perfect day…* (insert music notes here)! (Dropped this in especially for those Lou Reed fans or those of you who are a little younger and know the song from BBC’s Children In Need)!

Anyhow back on track. Having that blow dried hair may just enable you to stand a little taller. Hold your head a little higher. Walk a little smoother. Confidence results in getting things done. If you feel good about the way you look, it’ll reflect in the day ahead for you and everything that you are wanting to achieve that day too.

Having that blow dried hair may just enable you to stand a little taller. Hold your head a little higher. Walk a little smoother.

So go aHEAD (pun intended) and blow dry your hair!

To conclude, yes men use hairdryers (and no it’s shouldn’t be deemed camp or egotistical). Men take great pride in their appearance, just as women do (and some men now spend longer than women with their daily grooming routine). And why not? Let’s not ridicule men for this, let’s appreciate and congratulate. After all equality is what we strive and stand for.

Happy blowdrying days fellas!!!

Freelance hairdressing may be just what you need in these times where there is so much uncertainty about UK business sustainability. To make it to the top or to remain at the top irrespective of the high number of established high-street saloons, here are few tips to help you.

1. Get a qualification

It is imperative that you get a formal qualification, if not to the highest level, you should get a basic level. The NVQ Level 1 in hairdressing is a good place to start, although obtaining the Level 4 in NVQ is the stage where entrepreneurship is taught, so you are encouraged to complete all stages. While you work fulltime, you can take on the NVQ course on part time basis, and before the blink of an eye, you will be referred to as a ‘certified hairdresser’. Really, how does that make u feel? In addition, you should often undertake to be a trainee in a very good salon to brush up on your skills and continuously learn new styles. In short, never stop learning and updating your skills as often as possible and if you are thinking of complacent thoughts, don’t entertain it, It is never too late to start.

2. Get Tax Registered

Get registered with the HMRC for tax purposes.

You will need simple accounting skills in order to keep track of your earnings all year round and to avoid getting in trouble with the government.  For example, you will know your outgoing rates which will give u better feedback in ensuring that your fees are set at a good workable rate. Having this knowledge will also help you keep track of your profit which will in-turn help you adjust what needs to be adjusted, if need be.

3. Get Insured

Securing a good insurance for your hairdressing business is one of the best things you can do as a freelancer. You will be working at clients’ homes with chemicals, abrasives and costly equipments, where risk assessment may not be put in place. To guard against unforeseen circumstances and Clients who may be dissatisfied in a way that placating them is beyond your control, getting insurance is the answer.

4. Advertisements

Grant Moray, a freelance hairdresser with about 20 years’ experience suggests using every means to promote yourself. Starting out can be via friends and family members alongside their referrals, however, to get to the top, you will need to be versatile. You need to use leaflets, handbills, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest etc) and other business stationeries to your advantage.

Since the world has gone totally social, using online resources will be one of the best platforms to showcase your skills and get more clients.

5. Be flexible and innovative

Always think outside the box. For example, concerning payment for your services, customers should be able to make payments without having to give you cash or cheques. Have platforms where you can receive payment with card transaction with the use of innovative point-of-sale system. An example of such platforms is iZettle.

Keep Learning

Most of all, don’t stop learning. Keep on seeking knowledge about your business line until you put those brushes down.
With these few tips you are sure to stand out in your hairdressing business. See you at the top. credit:www.colleenoharasbeautyacademy.com

from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Hair loss and balding is common as men age, but it can be psychologically devastating even to the most confident of men. Some men choose chemical treatments for hair growth or toupees to deal with the problem, whereas other men choose to embrace their baldness. If you notice extra hair in the sink or spots on your head that your hair no longer covers, consider changing your look with a new haircut.

Steps

  1. Ask your hair stylist for a textured crop when you first notice signs of balding. A textured crop ads lots of mini layers to a short haircut to create the appearance of a thicker and fuller head of hair. This classic look is always in style and is ideal for thinning hair or first development of a bald spot.
  2. Try a messy ‘do to take attention away from your baldness. Thinning hair can look even more sparse when it is overly styled. A haircut that looks unkept gives the illusion of volume. A messy style leaves longer, tousled layers on top, which work well to conceal the beginning stages of a bald spot.
  3. Go with a faux-hawk cut if you are experiencing male pattern baldness or have a receding hairline. This cut is also sometimes called fohawk. This newer version of the classic mohawk hairstyle involves leaving the hair longer on the sides than the mohawk cut.
    • After the cut, your hair can be brushed back or parted and brushed to the side for a more conservative look, or whipped into shape using styling gel or wax.
  4. Opt for a buzz cut as your hairline recedes further or your bald spot spreads. Rather that try to hide the balding, some men decide to embrace it by getting a buzz cut which provides a clean cut appearance. A buzz cut is a generic term for a variety of short cuts done with clippers or a razor. Talk to your hair stylist to determine the best length for your cut.
  5. Choose a close shave as your baldness progresses. This haircut, also known as a straight shave or a close buzz cut, takes all of the hair off of your head creating a chic, refined look.
    • Consider the shape of your head when deciding if a buzz cut or a close shave will work for you. Both of these styles accent the shape of your head, which is not usually noticeable when it is adorned with hair.
    • Facial hair, such as a goatee or a beard sometimes helps to improve the overall look of a close shave.

Tips

  • Some male balding is a result of genetics and there is nothing that can be done about it. However, sometimes balding can be slowed down or prevented if the cause is not genetic. Stress, calcium deposits, and certain medications can lead to premature balding. Talk to your doctor if you are going bald and it does not run in your family.

I’m sure you’ve taken this into consideration at some point. Hair straightening is a process that will give you that relaxed, smooth hair which will allow for a higher variety of haircuts.

If you have think or curly hair and you’re sick of it, this article will be of particular interest to you.

Using a flat iron is now acceptable for men. That’s the good news. Knowing the tips and tricks to using it at home is another story. This is why I’m going to give you the essentials to straightening your hair by yourself.

Of course, you should take my advice as informational. Don’t go blaming me if something goes wrong. If you’re not confident you can pull it off by yourself, go to a hair stylist, let him show you how it’s done for a couple of times and THEN try it. Ok?

What are the best straighteners

I want to start with this because it’s the most critical part. Choosing the wrong straightener can cost you money and even your hair.

The best straighteners are those based on the ceramics technology. Choose one of these and you can’t go wrong.

The second criteria is to look at the label. If you see 5 flat irons brands in a row, skip the ones you haven’t heard of.

The third criteria is the price. This goes hand in hand with the previous one. The more well known the brand, the higher the price. Think of this as a long-term investment.

The fourth criteria is to ask one or more hair stylists. Each of them will give you their opinion about which brand is best but, the most important thing is that none of them will recommend you low-quality products. So, for at home use, make sure you choose a hair straightener that’s medium priced and has a high perceived reputation.

Last but not least, don’t go for any hair straightener that has any red or pink on it. It’s girly and men should be banned from ever touching them. If the brand you want has these colors, ask the store supervisor to get you something in black, grey or brown.

Things to watch out for before you do it

Before I tell you the steps to strengthening your hair, there are a few things you MUST know. If you make these mistakes, you ca easily get your hair burnt!

The first mistake you could make is not heating your flat iron enough. Believe it or not, this can be damaging to your hair as you’ll have to use the straightener for a longer period of time.

Another mistake is to use low-quality products. Everyone know this so make sure you only buy products which are in line with what I told you in the beginning of this article. The last thing you want is to shave your hair or, even worse, stay indoors for a couple of weeks! Always use professional hair care products to avoid damaging your hair.

The “how to”

OK, so let’s see the steps to straightening your hair. Ready?

Step 1: Wash your hair

Step 2: Use a hair straightener conditioner. This is critical as it greatly reduces the chances of burning your hair.

Step 3: Dry your hair as well as you can

Step 4: use the flat iron (also called the straightening iron) to straighten your hair. Starting from the back, use the flat iron to straighten the hair in a curvy motion. So don’t just pull the flat iron in a straight manner.
