What did You Wear on Your Last Wedding?
Well, I just drove back home from another wedding. It was really exciting to attend a 5-star wedding at a 5-star hotel, while the groom is a 5-star friend of mine. I had to look sharp – and I did.
I’ll save the pictures for last but, for now,I’ll just tell you what I wore. I leave it to you to put together in your head my entire outfit – just to practice. Here goes:
– dark-brown pinstripe suit
– light-blue simple dress shirt
– dark brown shoes and socks
– blue tie with brown stripes
– patterned pocket square
Since I was the man of honor, I arrived early at the goom’s house, after a 2-hour drive, and as I walked to the gate, he warmly shook my hand and said:
George, you look sharp, my friend.
And here’s the kicker: the camera was right next to us, shooting every word of the conversation!
Normally you don’t want to be dressed better than the groom… but I was.. oops!

Here’s a few tips about dressing for a wedding.
#1 Dress formally!
I can’t stress this enough. Weddings are formal events, this means you should always be wearing a suit. Forget chino pants, forget even dress pants paired with sports jackets. Sports jackets and blazers are for casual situations.
Also, do NOT mix the pants from one suit with the suit jacket of another suit. 2-piece and 3-piece suits are meant to be worn together and.
#2 Forget loafers
This advice should have been included in the first piece of advice, but it’s better that we discuss it separately. Loafers are casual, lace-ups are formal. Always go for shoes with laces when you attend a wedding, otherwise you’ll show great disrespect to the bride and the groom.
#3 Get the right suit color
Did you notice how I have a slightly darker skin complexion and dark hair? This is why I chose a dark suit, then paired it with a light-colored shirt. had I had lighter skin, I would have done the reverse: lighter-colored suit and a darker shirt.
#4 Wear your pocket square.
Shocking observation: though there were over 200 guests at my friend’s wedding, not one of them was wearing a pocket square! These guys don’t know what they’re missing out on.
