Should You Get a Watch That Stands Out?

One of the never ending quests here at Be Stylish is finding that little style item that makes all the difference. Most of the times, that item is a small accessory that brings a drop of color in an otherwise dull outfit. But what kind of accessory can make us men stand out in a subtle way?

You can try a scarf, you can try a pendant or a leather bracelet. But the manliest men’s accessory of all that I recommend you try is, of course, the watch.

A watch is not used to tell time anymore. Those days are long gone. In a world of mobile phones, smartphones and tablets, the watch is like a dinosaur fossil: it has no practical use yet everyone admires it.

I could go on and on about matching watches to your outfit. I could talk 2 hours straight about which watch goes for which attire (casual, formal, in-between, you name it).

But I’m not going to do that. Instead, I want you to see the watch from a different perspective. Think of it as the drop of color in an outfit.

Confused? Picture this: you’re wearing an outfit formed exclusively of black, white and grey clothes. Add to that an orange watch. What will get people’s attention? If you answered “the watch”, you’re absolutely right.

Why wear a watch in a bold color?

Wearing a watch in a bold color almost guarantees that you’ll be the only one doing it. Most men hardly wear watches these days.

The thing is, if you’re not comfortable wearing a vest or a pair of chino pants in a bold color, you can start small by wearing a watch.

It’s a drop of color but when it comes to clothing, it’s all in the details.

When should you wear a watch in a crazy color?

Unless you’re the businessman who drives a motorcycle and likes to be known as a crazy guy with crazy business ideas that work, don’t wear such a watch at work.

Wear a bold color watch only in casual situations. Formal dinners, weddings and workplaces are out of the questions. But if you’re out to a bar with some friends, do it!

What other colors work well?

OK, so maybe orange is not your favorite color. That’s ok, you can try any of these:

– blue
– red
– yellow
– white (will work wonders if you’re wearing only black and grey clothes).

Up to you which color you’re going to choose. All I can say is that you try it. Best part: you don’t have to buy the watch to see how it looks.

Here’s my sneaky trick that will reveal to you whether a colored watch is for you or not.

Wear only black, white and grey clothes. You know, the ones you would wear with your future watch. Then go to the watch store and try out a few mens watches. Try on as many colors as possible and make sure you take a good look at your entire outfit from head to toe.

Does the watch stand out? Do you like the crazy effect that the watch brings to yourself? If so, maybe it’s time you bought yourself a new watch…

Final word: whatever you decide to buy, always go for a quality watch. Swiss watches are have a great reputation and you can’t go wrong with them.

Did I convince you to get a watch in a bold color? Let’s discuss.
