Summer is in full swing and as an Aussie, you might want to open your closet and take out some light colorful tops to resist the scorching heat. However, you need shirts that are not only sweat proof, but also allow your body to perspire – something most conventional t shirts fail to accomplish.  You also need a t-shirt that gives you a sense of novelty.  We have compiled a list of the best t-shirt designs to beat the heat this summer and look fabulous at the same time.

Custom T Shirts

Custom t shirts have been around for quite some time now. If designed the right way, they look amazing and if not, you could become a laughing stock. Custom t-shirts and jerseys mirror your personality; they speak on your behalf when you don’t say a word. Many companies online take custom orders. Upload the design you need and the type of fabric you like. However make sure the company is trustworthy and read customer reviews. Pay only when you receive the order.

Choose Natural Fibers

In case you do not want to take the risk of ordering online, make sure the shirt you pick is made up of natural fibers such as linen, light cotton or chambray. These shirts are light and allow your body to perspire.

Minimalist Shirts

This style has been growing popular among teenagers over the last few years. It is minimalist, classy and simply looks great. You can pair it up with your favorite jeans and it would look fabulous tucked in or not. It gives you a sophisticated, polished look. For instance, I love what Uniqlo is doing with their boxy short sleeve t-shirts.

Importance of The Manufacture

The manufacture of your garment is just as crucial as the choice of fabric in summer. The lightweight and breathable qualities of fabric are useless if the shirt design does not complement these features. Make sure you try on a t-shirt before making a purchase.

Mix Things Up

To shine truly, you need to mix up your attire in the summer season. Pair up your tees with performance-enhancing bottoms that come with quick-drying and moisture-wicking properties. Go for lighter tones, as they reflect light and heat easily. Most importantly, pick a pair that you are comfortable with, something that you can wear with full confidence.

As much as I would like to see guys wear dress shirts, most of them are still clinging to their old t-shirts. So I’m calling a truce: how about you switch to polo shirts for a while and then, once you’re comfortable with those, you can transition to the almighty shirt?

Now, there are good polos and bad polos.

Bad polos:

– are made of synthetic fibers
– the don’t fit you perfectly (most guys wear stylish mens golf shirts and polo shirts that are 2 sizes too big for them).
– have logos on them or weird color combinations, such as a single stripe that runs across the chest

Now, I want to talk with you about this last issue. A single stripe across the polo or some geometric form on one side of the chest makes the garment look too sporty and, thus, less stylish. I would avoid these types of golf and polo shirts altogether.

Instead, focus on polos that are either in a solid color or have uniform horizontal stripes across the body.

Recommendations: you’ve basically got two options. You can either go to your local mall and take each store one by one, try on all the polos you can find. The second option is to shop online, but this is tricky.

You can try these golf shirts from Oakley, for instance, but you gotta know your measurements. The upside is that you can shop from the comfort of your own home and you can choose from dozens and dozens of models. That’s something you can’t do in stores, where the stock is limited.

The downside, of course, is that you risk ending up with something that won’t fit you. So here’s my recommendation if you decide to shop online: get something that you’re SURE will fit you, even if it’s a little too big. Then pay a visit to your tailor and have it adjust it to fit you like a glove. You should visit your tailor to adjust most your clothes anyway.

Good luck!

How to Make a T-shirt Stand Out https://bestylish.org/tops/how-to-make-a-t-shirt-stand-out/ Sun, 08 Jul 2012 10:36:39 +0000 https://event-traveller.com:8090/preview/bestylish.org/blog/?p=3803 There’s 2 kinds of men in this world: those who like to wear t-shirts and those who prefer t-shirts. There’s 2 kinds of men in this world: those who like to wear t-shirts and those who prefer t-shirts. Right now I’m in the first category but things are about to change for me.

After discovering the dress shirt as the Rosetta Stone of dressing well, I started to look into other options for what to wear during summer. And the only option that sounded reasonable to me (besides tank tops) was the t-shirt.

T-shirt are on the casual side of the spectrum as opposed to shirts. There are lots of times when you can wear them but, as opposed to shirts, there are many times when you can’t.

Going out to bars, clubs, walks on the beach, walks in the park or downtown, seeing a movie and anything that says “this is fun”, all of these are good times to wear a t-shirt.

Compared to a shirt, a t-shirt can be pretty boring so you need to upgrade the rest of your outfit as well.

Critical advice #1: do NOT wear t-shirts with funny messages or logos

The messages that most t-shirts have are really awful. They send a message but it’s always the wrong one.

Wearing a t-shirt with your favorite team might sound like it’s showing one of your hobbies but that’s not really what we’re after here. A man should send messages about his core qualities and beliefs, not his hobbies. These messages are far more powerful and they spark better and stronger reactions in other people than the boring outfits that most guys are wearing.

So pick your t-shirt carefully. A t-shirt in a solid color should always be your first option. Your second option, unless you have a noticeable belly, should be a striped t-shirt.

The stripes will give you an opportunity to color match them with the rest of the outfit. We’ll talk about that in a bit.

Critical advice #2: don’t be afraid of color

T-shirts are worn by virtually every guy out there so you need to find ways to stand out, in the absence of shirts. The easiest way is to get a colored t-shirt.

Red, green, yellow, light-blue, these are all fantastic colors that you can try out. Black and white are also good but in these cases you should compensate the lack of color somehow (I’ll show you how in a few moments).

A critical thing to remember when choosing your t-shirt’s color is that this garment will frame your face. What this means is that the color can make your face stand out (ideally) or, on the contrary, it can make your facial characteristics fade away.

Choosing the color is crucial and the rules of thumb are easy:

if you have a light skin complexion go for darker or medium colors.

if you have a dark skin complexion, stick with light or medium colors.

If you want to play it safe, colors such as medium blue, medium green, medium brown are a safe bet. But don’t shy away form standing out.

If you have darker skin, a yellow or a baby blue blue t-shirt will work wonders. And if you have lighter skin, dark brown, dark green or burgundy will make you look awesome.

Critical advice #3: coordinate

All right, we talked about colored t-shirts but the color means nothing if it’s not coordinated with the rest of the outfit.

When wearing t-shirts, the best item of clothing you can pair them with are chinos. Sure, jeans work too but too many guys wear the jeans + t-shirt combination.

For example, a nice pair of green chinos will look amazing with a banana cream t-shirt such as this one from T-Shirts.com:

A pair of blue chinos will work well with a white t-shirt with red and blue horizontal stripes.

Finally, a pair of khakis will pair up nicely with a dark-brown t-shirt.

If you’re aiming for a more complex outfit (and you should, that’s all I’ve been writing about all these years), you should seriously think about matching the t-shirt with some other item in your outfit.

You can match it with your belt, you can match it with your socks. Just try to get the colors to match as closely as possible. If they’re not exactly the same shade, don’t worry: casual style allows this imperfect match.

Don’t forget a nice pair of sneakers or moccasins. And if it’s spring or autumn, think about layering your t-shirt with either a sports jacket or a waistcoat.

Critical advice #4: accessorize

Ahh, accessories. this is where you can really go crazy. if you haven’t seen Johnny Depp outfits yet, I highly recommend that you take a look.

There’s so much to learn from this guy just by watching… and most of his outfits involve t-shirts.

Anyway, here’s a quick list of accessories that work great with t-shirts:

– leather, metal and colored bracelets
– pendants
– hats
– sunglasses
– bandanas
– and watches

So remember: choose a solid color or a striped t-shirt, add some color, coordinate with the rest of the outfit, then accessorize. You WILL look HOT.

This post was inspired by Johnny Depp’s outfits which, as I’m sue you already know from a previous article, is a big fan of t-shirts.

I just wanted to give you a few pointers as to what makes a good t-shirt, which colors to choose and which models to avoid.

Fabric

This one is easy. Always go for cotton. It’s breathable, it’s light and it’s casual. Avoid synthetic fibers as they can cause itching and don’t allow for proper air circulation.

Colors

Since t-shirt are always part of casual outfits, you can choose pretty much any color you want. Since they surround your face, it’s always good to choose a color that makes good contrast with your skin tone.

For instance, you can pair this t-shirt with a pair of khakis and white low-sole sneakers for an after-work casual look:

Or, you can go for one of those striped mens tees. This way you’ll have more options when it comes to color matching:

What not to wear

There are certain t-shirt that will make you look awful, so please stay away from them: t-shirts with brands and logos on them (your favorite team, your favorite drink, your company’s logo etc.)

Your outfit is your business card so what place does another brand have on it?

Stay stylish,

George

Nobody likes cold weather but what if you’re stuck in a region where you’re constantly fighting low temperatures?

Meet the cable knit sweater – a classic whose only purpose is to keep you warm… and stylish.

Origin

Where is the “cable knit” coming from? If you look closer at its texture, you’ll notice thick vertical “ropes” traversing it. This unique pattern is probably the “deepest” you’ll ever meet in an item of clothing.

I’m not going to bore you too much with this. It suffices to say this was considered a fisherman’s sweater and it did a good job at keeping men warm and dry out in the sea. The most well-know cable-knitted sweater is the Aran sweater. Some say it originates from the Aran island in Ireland, where it was traditionally worn by fishermen.

While most sweaters were knitted by hand in the past, this isn’t the case anymore. The vast majority are machine-sewed so, if you’re looking for a sweater made in the traditional way… you’ll have some searching to do.

Patterns

The stitches have a wide variety and, if you take the time to browse the stores for these sweaters, you won’t see any two that are alike.

Let’s see some examples. We start off with the actual cable pattern:

And here’s another common pattern. You’ll often see the diamond pattern in tandem with the cable pattern.

Here’s another interesting one, which I’m sure you’re already familiar with: fishbone:

These are just a few, you’ll see a lot more when you go shopping for cable-knit sweaters. Remember: if the pattern is tridimensional, it’s only suitable for the cold season. The rest of the patters which don’t bring that depth into an outfit are suitable on all seasons.

Fabric

I’m sure you guessed this one, heavy cable knit sweaters are made of wool. This means you won’t get too hot in it because wool will allow your body to breathe and feel comfortable.

Comfort

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. This will will make me itchy. Not necessarily, unless you decide to wear a traditional cable-knit sweater. Otherwise, the sweaters made by the designer houses will feel just like cotton on your skin. You should only have reasons to worry if you’re allergic to wool – that’s it.

Photos

OK, let’s see how the cable-knit sweater has made its way into men’s style.

Let’s start with this shawl-collared cable-knit sweater from J. Crew.

And how about this one, with a zipper?

Agreed, not my first choice. It looks to big on the hands and too long on the waist. Still, nice color and texture.

To make things more interesting, go for a sweater in a color such as light blue:

And here’s one with some interesting brown buttons. You’ll see these type of buttons on a lot of cardigans these days but, because they’re pretty heavy, the make a great addition to an Aran sweater.

Is this sweater too boring?

I don’t know about you but, personally, when I was little, I always thought these sweaters were kind of geeky. They always made me feel uncomfortable and itchy whenever my mom had me wear them. back then, I didn’t know how to dress.

Cable-knit sweaters seem to dull, don’t they? Let’s see how we can change that.

I saved the best for last. Here’s how applying known style principles can make a boring item of clothing look amazing.

photo: ralphlauren.com

You may not want to roll-up your sleeves like that when you’re going outside but notice the big buckle on that belt and the winter boots. Everything is in harmony.

The first option to making an Aran sweater work is to match it with chino pants. The two can either match to some degree and/or make good contrast. Just make sure they aren’t both of the exact same color and luminosity.

The second is to add a shirt underneath your sweater. This may work if the collar of the sweater allows for the shirt to be noticed.

Third, wear a great overcoat on top of it. If you have, say, a dark brown cable knit sweater, go for a camel-colored coat. You get contrast and the two colors are in the same color family. Bingo!

Fourth, get a nice belt and boots. You can, for instance, wear a belt in an interesting color to make the entire outfit look more stylish. Just make sure the sweater isn’t too big so that it hides your belt completely.
