Visiting Greece This Summer
Each year we look forward to a summer trip away, last year we toured Italy, Germany and Austria, this year we are going to the amazing country of Greece. With this we have decided to do some research and plan ahead. If all goes well here is the itinerary of our journey:
Day 1-5 Skiathos
We have been highly recommended Skiathos and with flights from the UK at low prices this will be our starting destination.
Meteora – Monasteries Greece
From Skiathos we will get the ferry across to mainland Greece and catch a taxi up to Metora, a rock formation with complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, The six monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. These monasteries are iconic and look amazing, with them reportedly being the real-life inspiration for the Game of Thrones, a must for us then.
Day 7 – 9 – Athens
From Meteora, we will continue South via Taxi to the capital city of Athens. From research we have found the best things to do in Athens include the Acropolis of Athens and the Parthenon, the landmark ruins which was dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Both of these tours will be the highlight of the trip for myself. Another trip we are are excited to go on is the Temple of Poseidon tour which will give us the complete story behind this historic site. From research, Athens is a great city to visit in the summer with amazing nightlife and restaurant scene. We also want to visit the famous Poet Sandal Maker shop in the center, to get amazing quality sandals.

Day 11 – 14 – Santorini
From Athens we will get on the ferry and travel to the Island of Santorini. Whilst it passes Mikonos we will miss that due to time and go straight to Santorini. For those that are unaware of Santorini, if you have seen the iconic images of the blue mountainside roofs overlooking the sea, this is that island. One of the most popular island destinations of Greece and also one of the most expensive. The sunset views are some of the best in the world one we are excited to see. This will be the final destination of our trip to Greece and one in which we will like to relax and soak up the sun before returning home.
