Choose Plimsolls for a Casual Summer Look

Share

twill plimsolls

I’ve talked a lot about leather shoes and why they’re the number one option for a stylish outfit. I’ve even taken it one step further and discussed some unusual models, such as monk strap and saddle shoes.

But these leather shoes have one BIG problem: they become uncomfortable after walking in them for a few hours. Now, if it’s autumn or spring, you don’t have much of a choice. But if it’s summer, guess what?

There are a number of summer shoes available and plimsolls are one of them. They’re comfy, they’re trendy and you can get them for less than $50.

Why are plimsolls so great?

Plimsolls, when part of the right outfit, will give you that laid back look that you should project all summer long. While plimsolls are considered a type of athletic shoe, it’s ok to wear them in casual situations.

Matching your plimsolls

Needless to say, you need to match them with the rest of your outfit. Let’s take this model right here:

white plimsoll

This will go great with a white canvas belt. Since you’re putting together a casual look, a thick belt is the only way to go.

The secret to matching plimsolls is to repeat the color on the canvas. if they have blue, repeat the blue on your pants or t-shirt. Color repetition is a must when putting together a stylish outfit.

If you get a pair with two colors on them, make sure you repeat both of them in your outfit.

Taking care of your plimsolls

The biggest problem plimsolls have is the white rubber sole, which gets dirty very easily. What I recommend is to wash the sides of the sole with a moist cloth after each wear. if you don’t do this, in time, that white will eventually turn to grey.

    Hi,
I have some problem regarding my wardrobe and my clothing style and it goes same with shoes too. I am usually a guy who is very comfy in tshirts although i wear shirts also but 80 percent of time i wear tshirts. Similarly i wear sneakers rather than loafers. So basically i am a pure casual guy who wants to be fashionable yet laid back at the same time. Now recently i noticed that i like more of a pics which are dressy casual and not full casual. I also found out that i look 10 times better in casual yet some elegant dressing rather than my usual style. Whats happening here i am unable to understand. I look much better and confident in shirts but at the same time wear tshirts 80 percent of the time to feel relaxed. Can you figure it out whats happening here.

    Hi Amir,

I should congratulate you: you’ve finally discovered the power of mixing formal and casual. You actually felt it!

Shirts are more stylish than t-shirt yet t-shirts are more comfortable than the former. When you add a touch of formal to your outfit, you’re raising the value you project.

In time you’ll learn to feel comfortable in shirts as well. As far as t-shirts, you can make some amazing outfits with them. Just look at Johnny Depp:

    thanks george…..
i went for a window shopping today in ZARA and lookout for some boat and loafers. now i am liking more of them than my casual sneakers. although linen pants were there and i was thinking of putting a loafers along with white shirt with it but then drop the idea. Although it will make a great outfit… and i can replace shoes with flip flops too but i am looking for more of something that will fit most of the places. the above linen pant and white shirt might not be for all ocassions 🙂 and so i drop the idea. so my idea will be to go for jeans and loafers….

    Hi Amir,
I’m not sure I follow. You’re basically saying that the reason you chose jeans over linen pants is because they’ll be fit for more occasions? You mean casual occasions or…?

The reason I’m asking is because linen pants are more formal than jeans, thus you can wear them in a wider range of occasions (e.g. business-casual).

what i mean to say is that… when you wear linen or shorts… they kind of give you a very cool look that is actually not appropriate for certain formal occassions… see pic uploaded in article http://www.bestylish.org/blog/index.php/lookbooks/lookbook-an-all-white-summer-look … they actually give a very relaxed and at the same time very cool look that actually project that you are either enjoying your holiday or are after a lunch somewhere… its very trendy and cool look if we consider the same as streetwear

if you want to see my style for the last 2 years that is not very stylish … then you can check out http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150298359585089.527145.742920088 … here i am missing accessories and my shoes that i am unable to decide. DO you have any suggestion that you can give me to improve my style because what i can see from my pics is that i actually dont want to be in much colors although i can carry any color very easily. Further i am loving layering and color mathcing fundamentals. i have experimented a lot with my clothing and now i somewhat know how to look even better than these pics!

OK, I’m back from vacation and here’s my feedback for you, based on your Facebook pics. Here are some of the things that I would do if I were in yoru place:

    – I would wear more color (red, pale yellow, turquoise, baby blue, light blue etc.)

    – I would go to a hair stylist to get a new haircut (this one is all right but you can do better)

    – In the first picture I wouldn’t wear a t-shirt over a shirt and I wouldn’t raise the collar upwards like that Here’s a nicer way to wear a shirt:

    – the blazer looks nice but I would tuck the shirt in and wear it wich chino pants. Chino pants are great:

    – I would never wear a simple t-shirt and jeans unless I’m inside the house or have no choice. T-shirts are great and comfy, and, to up your style, I would choose a canvase colored belt which I would match with my sneakers, for instance. Or I would matck it with one of the colors from the t-shirt.

    – About shoes: leather shoes are great and are a staple in any man’s wardrobe. But you can try suede leather, which is more stylish. Also, try moccasins, boat shoes and espadrilles (espadrilles only in the warmer periods of the year – lucky you’re in India, you have a lot of sunny days there).

    Thanks George for commenting.

Well the first pic was not actually what i wear at some outside event or to some mall. It just happens that i was fond of wearing tshirt over another tshrt. So on one night we guys went out without making a plan for a cup of coffee to a local shop. So in a hurry i got that idea of wearing a t over a shirt. 😀

one important thing i need to ask. you said that you wont wear a t with a jeans unless you are at home but if we look at zac efron pics we found that he normally wears tshirt when going outside and he still looks great in them. Whats the secret behind this??

I work for a very casual company, but I prefer to be a step above everyone else when it comes to clothing. I wear casual khaki or chino pants, and Keds the same color as a polo or untucked oxford I have on. I always get complemented. I am afraid that if I wore something more dressy I would stand out too much.
